In late 2014, we commissioned a leading independent air quality laboratory to conduct a study for us, with the goal of quantifying the effectiveness of our Hot Carbonating Extraction (HCE) cleaning method. We tested non-living allergen removal from carpets and upholstery, as well as our ability to remove airborne bacteria from the home. The study was conducted in a cross-section of consumer homes in the U.S. and abroad, using our HCE process along with a pre-spray.

Key Findings from the Final Report:

  • We effectively remove common non-living household allergens from carpets and upholstery (combined). The common non-living household allergens we tested were cat dander, dog dander and dust mite allergen.
  • We remove a significant amount of non-living allergens from carpets.
  • We remove a significant amount of non-living allergens from upholstery.
  • With the addition of a sanitizer to the cleaning process, we have a significant impact on reducing airborne bacteria and improving indoor air quality.

Allergy Relief with Chem-Dry

If you are one of the estimated 40 million Americans who suffer from indoor allergies or one of the 25 million people with asthma, recent studies have shown that you do not have to remove carpeting to control your allergy symptoms as long as it is properly and effectively cleaned. Common non-living allergens are constantly moving around in the air you breathe and soft surfaces such as carpets, rugs and upholstery actually act as giant filters, trapping these allergens and keeping them out of the air you and your family breathe. But, just like an air filter, carpets become full over time and must be properly cleaned to remain most effective at trapping particulates as they settle from the air.

Chem-Dry's proprietary Hot Carbonating Extraction process effectively removes common non-living household allergens from carpets & upholstery; with the addition of sanitizer, it significantly reduces airborne bacteria, improving indoor air quality.

Carpets as well as area rugs and upholstered furniture act as giant filters, trapping non-living allergens and bacteria and keeping them out of the air we breathe. But, just like an air filter, carpets become full over time and must be properly cleaned to remain most effective at trapping particulates as they settle from the air. This is especially important for the 1 in 5 Americans (roughly 60 million) living with allergies or asthma. You can ensure cleaner indoor air in your home by keeping your carpets clean and in good condition through regular vacuuming and having your carpets, rugs and upholstery professionally cleaned every 3 - 4 months to rid your home of common non-living allergens and bacteria.

Removing Bacteria

Indoor Air Quality Bacteria StudyIndoor air quality is also a significant concern because the average home harbors a large amount of bacteria for every square inch of carpet. As the bacteria builds up, it gets stirred up and circulates in the air your family is breathing unless you clean it. Chem-Dry carpet cleaning is effective at removing bacteria from the carpets we clean while also improving the air quality in your home. The same leading independent air quality laboratory found that, when adding sanitizer to our HCE carpet cleaning process, we significantly reduced bacteria both in the air and in carpets.
